about
CensHERship

CensHERship is an advocacy and research initiative addressing censorship and bias of women’s health content, products and businesses across digital platforms, financial systems and regulatory environments.

This infrastructure bias impacts women’s health brands, educators, charities, content creators and female founders.

Our advocacy workstream combines research, lobbying, media awareness and legislative pressure.

Our solutions include FemTick, the global standard for women’s health, and Re-Imagining the Algorithm in partnership with Communia and Reliabl.

Why
CensHERship Matters

Our team has experienced social media censorship first-hand, and since 2024 we’ve been proving that this and other infrastructure bias are not one-offs, but systemic issues.

Social media censorship ranges from women’s health vocabulary (period, vagina, vulva…) being restricted and impacting reach, through to paid ads for women’s health and sexual wellbeing products being rejected. Organic and paid content is often removed after launch or placed behind a sensitivity cover. Accounts are deleted.

Women are not able to own the narrative around their own bodies, rather, they’re viewed through the lens of male sexuality. Female-led brands cannot grow. Women miss out on potentially life-saving information.

This impacts women’s health outcomes, economic outcomes and perpetuates shame and stigma about women’s biology.
